I took time out yesterday from writing my thesis to visit Solstice Painters in Montgomery, Powys. Formed this year, all members have attended Lifelong Learning art classes in Newtown or Welshpool taught by yours truly. They decided to carry on with their own meetings over summer when there are no taught classes and now have their first exhibition at The Old Bell Gallery, Montgomery.
The preview night is Friday 14th September and the exhibition is on from the Saturday to Thursday 20th, open 10am to 4pm daily. If any Picturemakers (or anyone else reading this!) can pop along and support the group during these times, or at the opening (all welcome) it would be appreciated, and one of the group will be stewarding, so it is a chance to have a chat about the work.
I might be biased, but I have to say that this group has prouduced some great artwork. The pieces on display range from representational to abstract and have a wonderful individuality about them. To kick things off, I have donated a small seascape the proceeds of which, if sold (minus the gallery commission) will go into the (presently non-existent) kitty. I am sure that all Picturemakers remember the first time the group exhibited and how nerve-wracking it can be, and all the things that have to be considered. The Solstice Painters are funding this without any sponsorship or backing, so I'd like to say good luck and here's to a successful show!
